Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art
Immerse yourself in the works of Hyogo's leading artists in the museum designed by Tadao Ando
The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art opened in 2002 in HAT Kobe, the new city center located in the eastern part of Kobe, as a symbol of the city's cultural resurrection from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. It is one of the largest-scale art museums in western Japan, with a collection of around 10,000 works by artists with ties to Hyogo Prefecture such as Ryohei Koiso and Heizo Kanayama. The building was designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando as a place for various forms of art to come together and offers much to see.

An integration of scenery and art
The museum is set in a beautiful environment overlooking the Rokko Mountains to the north and the Seto Inland Sea and Port of Kobe to the south. In addition to the exhibits, there is an Art Information Center, gallery, museum hall, restaurant and cafe. The outside also has a space where you can appreciate sculptures, architecture and the wonderful scenery. In 2019, the Ando Gallery opened, introducing various models of Ando's works (free admission).
Green Apple, an outdoor art installation designed by Tadao Ando
The Ando Gallery exhibits the models of works and drawings by the acclaimed architect, as well as introduces projects on the reconstruction from the great earthquake in addition to his latest projects. The Green Apple was designed inspired by the poem "Youth" by American poet Samuel Ullman. It is installed on a seaside deck across from the Ando Gallery as a symbol of the gallery.
