Tea Museum in Yame
Rediscover the charms of green tea in Yame City in Fukuoka surrounded by beautiful green mountains and rice terraces
Green tea is deeply rooted in the lives of Yame City, its culture, history, and tradition. At the Tea Museum located in Hoshino village in the area known as Okuyame, you can enjoy the traditional Hon-Gyokuro green tea “Shizuku tea,” an original tea from the region. Other tea products such as Gyokuro, tea noodles, tea leaf rice, matcha ice cream, rice-cake stuffed with bean jam and steamed sweet buns are also available. Enjoy the rich and mild flavors of the tea that Hoshino village has to offer.
Tea-making experience
At Yamecha Kobo, not only can you drink and eat tea but also enjoy hands-on experiences. The various programs include making green tea from raw leaves, as well as making Hoji tea from “Shiraore” stem tea using a special tool called “Houroku.” The staff members kindly show you each procedure so that you can relax and enjoy. In addition, tea grinding, Japanese confectionery making and a lecture on how to serve Japanese tea are also available.
