The beauty of a natural wonder: A gorge cloaked in the gorgeous colors of autumn

Naruko Gorge is a massive canyon with a depth of 100 meters that was formed through the uplift and fluvial erosion of the Oya River over a long period of time. You can revel in the spectacular beauty of a natural wonder. From late October to early November, the autumn scenery of red and yellow leaves dotted with green pine trees is particularly stunning.

Miyagi Olle Trail: Osaki Naruko Hot Spring Trail Course

"Olle" refers to a trekking course that originated in Jeju Island, South Korea. The Miyagi Olle Osaki Naruko Hot Spring Trail Course is an approximately 10-kilometer route from Naruko Gorge to Naruko-Onsen Station on the JR Rikuu East Line. The scenic route along the promenades and old roads surrounded by beautiful gorges passes by several famous locations such as the Japan Kokeshi Museum and Shitomae-no-Seki, a checkpoint where 17th-century haiku poet Matsuo Basho crossed. The route painted with brilliant lush greenery in spring is beautiful, but hiking can be enjoyed at its best during the autumn foliage season. (The route is closed from late November to early April due to heavy snow.)
