SELECT BEPPU

Save to List

SELECT BEPPU is a curated shop opened in a renovated nagaya, or row house, that is more than 100 years old. On the 1st floor, there is a range of original products as well as works created by artists and artisans with connections to Beppu. The 2nd floor features a fusuma painting by Michael Lin, allowing visitors to come into contact with art in the everyday.

Using traditional Taiwanese textile patterns, such as florals, the contemporary artist, Michael Lin, creates paintings that show an awareness of the characteristics of the space and the building. This piece, which was entered in the Beppu Contemporary Art Festival 2009 “Mixed Bathing World,” has remained on display to the general public, even after the festival ended.
(Artist: Michael Lin, Title: Untitled, Materials: Fusuma doors and emulsion paints, Size: W945 x H1730 x 2 panels and W975 x H1730 x 4 panels, Production year: 2009)
