Roadside Station Itoman

A collection of foods, culture and great souvenirs in one of Okinawa's largest roadside stations

Roadside Station Itoman is the southernmost shopping center of its kind in Japan, with a collection of five operated facilities: the farmers market by the Japan Agricultural Cooperatives (JA), fish market by the Itoman Fisheries Cooperative, Itoman City's produce center, Okinawan barbecue pork restaurant Vannai and the Roadside Station Itoman Information Center. Locals and tourists alike can enjoy shopping and dining for delicious local cuisine such as seafood rice bowls, fresh fish and vegetables.

Seasonal island vegetables at the JA Umanchu Market

Pick from an abundance of fresh and safe produce grown by local Itoman farmers at the JA Okinawa Farmers Market Umanchu Market. The bustling shop offers various seasonal island vegetables and tropical fruits locally produced in Itoman, or around the prefecture and Japan. The flavorful and nutritious Island vegetables are not readily available on the mainland, and are said to be the secret to the Okinawan people's health and longevity. For an especially fresh souvenir, have the produce shipped from the shop.

Fresh seafood at the Itoman Fisheries Cooperative Fish Center

The Fish Center brings in ocean-fresh seafood from the local port of Itoman, one of Okinawa’s largest fishing towns, and from across the prefecture. The colorful fish unique to Okinawa are quite beautiful and make for a great photo. In addition to fresh fish and sashimi processed for cooking, you can also buy a variety of deli dishes such as grilled shrimp with sea urchin sauce and seafood rice bowls. One of the best features of the Fish Center is the eat-in area where you can enjoy fresh seafood just purchased while feeling the pleasant Okinawan breeze. It's a great place to eat for families with small children, too!

Shop for great local souvenirs at Itoman Produce Center Yukura

Enjoy shopping for the local specialties of Itoman, as well as staple Okinawan sweets, crafts and awamori (alcoholic beverage of Okinawa), from a lineup of over 2,000 items. The name Yukura is a play on words to convey the message "come have fun and eat," and offers various souvenirs made from local ingredients such as all-purpose sauce made with plenty of Chura Carrot, an Itoman specialty carrot with high sugar content; and Okinawan pork miso sauce, which is delicious with rice. The adjoining food court also serves a range of savory Okinawan dishes.
