Katayamazu Onsen

Katayamazu Onsen is one of Kaga Onsen Village's hot springs located in Kaga, Ishikawa. The scenic and relaxing hot spring resort is situated along the shores of Lake Shibayama gazing upon the ranges of Mount Haku. There are plenty of fun events such as the illuminated water fountain show at night and fireworks display held above the lake in the summertime, as well as the Nakaya Ukichiro Museum of Snow and Ice where you can enjoy learning about the wonders of snow and ice through experiments and videos.

City Spa

Located against the backdrop of the grand Mount Haku and Lake Shibayama, Katayamazu City Spa is a modern all-glass public bath facility designed by world-renowned architect Yoshio Taniguchi, known for his work in the redesign of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. There are two baths, the Kata-no-Yu (lagoon hot spring) overlooking the surface of Lake Shibayama and the Mori-no-Yu (forest hot spring) surrounded by lush trees, which switch daily for men and women. The MACHI cafe on the second floor has an open terrace where you can enjoy meals and sweets while looking out over Lake Shibayama.

Nakaya Ukichiro Museum of Snow and Ice

Ukichiro Nakaya (1900-1962) was born in Katayamazu Onsen and was the first scientist in the world to create artificial snow crystals while at Hokkaido University. Mesmerized by the beauty of snow, he pioneered various areas related to snow and ice, expanding his field to Greenland and other places around the globe. The museum's exhibits center around Dr. Nakaya's multifaceted achievements, as well as developments in snow and ice studies after his death using experiments and observation equipment. The museum cafe Tea Room Fuyu-no-Hana (winter flower) also presents a stunning view of Mount Haku and Lake Shibayama.
