KOBE MARITIME MUSEUM

Discover the history and future of the ocean, ships, and port in Kobe
Designed with a beautiful white space frame roof portraying a sailboat and waves across the open sea, KOBE MARITIME MUSEUM was founded in 1987, commemorating the 120th anniversary of the opening of the current Port of Kobe in 1868. The museum underwent renovations and reopened in 2020 with the slogan “The Journey of Kobe and Its Port.” The transition of Kobe City with the times and the history and future of the ocean, ships, and the port are told through various materials, models, videos, and experience-based exhibits in an easily comprehensible way. Also, adjacent to the museum is Kawasaki Good Times World, the corporate museum of the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group that was established in 2006 and has moved forward together with the Port of Kobe since its beginning.

Kawasaki Good Times World
The museum also has an area dedicated to the past accomplishments and ongoing achievements of one of Kobe's proudest companies. The Kawasaki Group, probably best known for its motorcycle designs, has its own exhibition space within the museum. The company was originally founded in Kobe, and maintains headquarters in the city to this day. Known as Kawasaki Good Times World, the area looks at Kawasaki's numerous innovations over land, sea and air across their history, which goes back more than a century.
