Jodogahama Beach in Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, is a place of scenic beauty on the Sanriku Fukko National Park. Its stunning views can be enjoyed from sightseeing boats. Jodogahama Beach is a popular swimming spot in summer, but can be enjoyed throughout the year. There, you can enjoy and beautiful sunrise that change in every season.
Jodogahama Beach is one of the most scenic places on the Sanriku Fukko National Park. The beautiful contrast of white rocks and green pines make this beach also known as "Pure Land". Take a 40 minutes long boat cruise to visit several interesting rock formation, such as Candle Rock and the blowholes. You can also feed the seagulls that follow the boats.
As well as the large sightseeing cruise boats, you can also take a cruise of the cave in Jodogahama Bay on a small boat called a Sappa. This cave is known as "Hachinohe-ana", as it is said to stretch all the way to the city of Hachinohe in Aomori Prefecture. The mystical, other-worldly scene inside the cave is a stunning sight.
Traveling to Miyako City became convenient with the launch of regular Miyako-Muroran ferry services from June 22, 2018 and rail services on the Sanriku Railway "Rias Line" also scheduled to commence on March 23, 2019.
Sanriku Railway, which operates along the Sanriku coastline, is popular by its uniqueness and season-limited services, such as the Kotatsu Train, featuring sunken kotatsu seats with heating elements under the table, and the Zashiki Train, which features carriages with tatami seating.
