Information for Carry-On Items and Onboard Rules
Here, you'll find guidelines for carry-on baggage and other items, and the use of such items onboard the aircraft.
Guidance for Carrying on Baggage and Other Items
Most travelers can bring on board one full-size carry-on bag and one personal item (handbag, umbrella, camera, etc.).
- If your itinerary includes a flight by another airline, that airline's baggage rules may also apply. This includes codeshare flights—the joint operation of an aircraft by two or more carriers—that operate using ANA flight numbers. For details, see Codeshare Baggage Information.
- When traveling on Japanese domestic sectors using a ticket for which the International Conditions of Carriage apply, the baggage rules for international flights will apply.
- Please be advised that in the event that it is impossible to confirm whether or not an item can be transported by airplane before the departure time, the request for transport may be rejected.
- A baggage within the size specified below may be included in checked baggage when the size is not suited for the cabin. Please check in any baggage (carrying bag, baby stroller, jute bag, etc.) exceeding the following size.
- If you carry on board any baggage exceeding the carry-on baggage allowance, it may cause delay or cancellation of your flight. For a Comfortable and Safe Journey, please check in baggage exceeding the permitted size for carry-on baggage before passing through security.
Size and Weight Limits
Carry-on baggage is limited to what can be stored in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you. It cannot exceed these limits:

Examples of items not included in personal belongings
- One coat
- One umbrella
- A child safety seat to be attached to the passenger's seat during the flight
- Crutches, walking sticks, prosthetic arms and legs to be used by person with disabilities
- Guide dogs, service dogs, and hearing dogs to accompany person with disabilities
- Bags containing infant or child items necessary for the flight
- Portable cradle for use with infants or children
- Other items specifically approved by ANA to be carried onboard
Notes:
- Depending on the aircraft type and the size of the storage space, some items may not be accepted for carry-on even if they meet size and weight limits.
- Large tripods: Tripods longer than 60 cm (approx. 23.6 inches) when folded cannot be carried on board.
- An additional seat must be purchased if the size of your carry-on exceeds the carry-on limit.
- If you wish to bring a contrabass into the cabin, it will be accepted in economy class.
- Please refrain from attaching cameras mounted on aircraft windows or shades, as they may cause damage to the aircraft if removed or attached, and may also cause injury to you or other passengers due to turbulence, etc.
- In the event that it is impossible to confirm whether or not an item can be transported by airplane before the departure time, the request for transport may be rejected.
- Please see the gate agent or contact ANA by phone if you have a question about whether an item can be carried on board.
Carrying on Liquids, Aerosols and Gels
All liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs), must be carried in containers with a capacity no larger than 3.4 oz or 100 ml each.
Containers with a larger capacity, even if the content are less than 3.4 oz., must be placed in the checked baggage.
Those containers must be placed in a transparent, resealable plastic bag (zip-locked bag) with a volume no larger than one liter (1,000 ml), and a two side total no larger than 40 cm. The containers must fit into the bag which must be completely closed.

LAGs purchased at duty-free shops, etc., at the departure airport can be carried on board. However, the following requirements may apply depending on the country. For details, see Duty-Free LAG Items.
Size guidelines
- For square bags: length within 20 cm x width within 20 cm
- For rectangular bags: combined length and width no longer than 40 cm
Exceptions to Liquids Rules
Medications, baby milk and baby food, and food for special dietary needs can be carried on board without placing them in a transparent plastic bag.
- For medication, a copy of the prescription or a medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner indicating the name of the illness, etc., may be requested at security.
- Breast milk and baby food is only permitted for passengers traveling with an infant.
- Departures from the United States: Breast milk (but not baby food) may be carried on board even when an infant is not traveling with the passenger. It must be presented to inspectors at the security checkpoint.
Departures from Thailand
Only hand sanitizers can be carried on board up to 350 ml per container.Please be aware that if you transfer to an international flight after arriving in Japan, a liquid containing more than 100 milliliters per container cannot be carried on board.
Departing from the UK
- Strictly enforced by the authorities.
If restricted items are found, baggage will be opened and re-inspected by security staff. It may take more time to complete inspections, especially during the year-end and New Year holidays.

- Please place your PC, tablet, and/or liquids flat on the tray. Do not place them on top of other items.
- Please confirm in advance that the zipper of the transparent plastic bag for liquids can be closed.
If the zipper does not close and/or there are items that do not fit, they will be thrown away.- * Please note that ANA Business Class and First Class amenity kits also contain liquids.
Eligible Flights
The rules apply to flights departing from the following countries.
- International routes only: Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar.
- International routes and domestic routes (flights within the EU): EU member states*1, United Kingdom, United States, Mexico, Thailand, India, Canada, Mainland China, Philippines, Cambodia.

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
The non-EU members Iceland, Switzerland, and Norway apply the same rules.
Strollers and Child Seats
Folding strollers, portable cradles, and child seats can be checked in free of charge as long as they are for the use of the traveler who checks them.
Baby strollers can be brought on board only if they fall within the above size regulations when folded.
- As only one item of carry-on baggage is allowed per passenger, passengers bringing a baby stroller on board cannot bring another carry-on item, aside from personal items such as a handbag, camera or umbrella.
- Please fold and store your baby stroller in a case before passing through the ticket gate. If you do not have a case of your own, our staff will provide you with a plastic bag specifically for use with baggage.

Carrying Medical Equipment on Board
If you need to travel with medication, medical equipment or devices, such as CPAP machines, or hearing aids that emit radio waves, please contact the ANA Disability Desk in advance to confirm if the item is permitted onboard.
- Be prepared to provide the manufacturer, product name, model, size, battery type, etc.
- Please note that we may check your equipment again at the airport before departure.
Note: Scissors, even those that are part of medical equipment, cannot be carried on board.

Storing Carry-On Items
Please store carry-on baggage in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you to ensure a safe journey. Leaving baggage where it might hinder an emergency evacuation such as in the aisle or near the emergency exits is prohibited by law. Passengers seated where there is no seat in front of them are always required to keep the area around their feet free of baggage.
When storing your baggage in the overhead compartment, please make sure everything is stored neatly. Baggage that is not secured properly could fall out and injure you or other passengers.
Restrictions on Smoking
Smoking and/or the use of fire in all seats, including the restrooms, is strictly prohibited. If a fire is started and the fire detector is activated, the aircraft will need to turn back to the gate or make an emergency landing at a nearby airport.
E-cigarettes, Non-combusted cigarettes should be carried on the aircraft, but they cannot be used onboard. They cannot be in checked baggage.
- Because smokeless cigarettes may impair the comfort of other passengers, the ANA Group prohibits their use onboard. In addition, it is prohibited to charge e-cigarettes, non-combusted cigarettes, and spare rechargeable batteries onboard.
- One lighter or one small box of safety matches per person can be carried on board.
- Please make sure not to leave your lighter in the cabin.
- Lighters containing oil tanks, cigar lighters and pre-mixed burner lighters (turbo lighters, jet lighters, lighters producing a blue flame, etc.) are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board.

Electronic Devices Emitting Radio Waves
Electronic devices that emit radio waves (including cell phones, laptops and electronic gaming consoles) are not permitted to be used for communication from the time the doors close before departure to the time the aircraft arrives at the destination gate.
Please set your device to airplane mode (sometimes called standalone mode, offline mode or flight mode), which blocks the sending and receiving of radio waves for functions that include phone calls, emails, text messages, and internet access.
The cabin attendants will make announcements to notify passengers when they can and cannot use these items.
Phones Requiring Special Caution, Such as Cell Phones for Children
Some phones turn on periodically to send their position even when the power is turned off. Please turn the power off completely to assure it does not interfere with aircraft function.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connections
Connections between Bluetooth devices (e.g., wireless headphones) and connections between Wi-Fi devices (electronic game consoles) are permitted at all times as long as the device is set to airplane mode.
Note that since wireless communication is restricted to that occurring within the aircraft, connecting to mobile Wi-Fi routers or public wireless LAN is prohibited.
