  • Infants and children require the same number of miles to redeem an award as adults. For other details, please refer to the Usage Policy for Infants and Children page.
  • If the amount of miles is not sufficient to redeem a flight award, it is not possible to cover the difference with cash or ANA SKY COINS.
  • Award tickets cannot be used in conjunction with upgrade awards.
  • Family members who are registered for ANA Card Family Miles or the ANA Mileage Club Family Account (AFA) Service can combine their miles to redeem awards.

Eligible Mileage Account Groups

Miles from the following mileage account groups can be used to redeem flight awards.

  • Group 1 : Miles
  • Group 2 : Miles (Time limited)
  • Group 3 : Miles (Time and usage limited)
  • Group 4 : Miles related to aviation services (Time limited)

The number of miles required for flight award redemption will be automatically deducted from the member's mileage account in order of the earliest expiration date. If there are miles with the same expiration date in different mileage account groups, they will be automatically combined and deducted in accordance with the following order of priority.

Order of priority for combining miles: Group 4→3→2→1

Mixed Classes

If there are flights for multiple classes included in an itinerary, the required mileage for both the outbound and return journeys are divided by 2, then totaled.
If the itinerary has flights for multiple classes and also includes connections, the required mileage for the higher class of service on both the outbound and return journeys will be applied.

Validity

1 year from the itinerary start date. (The itinerary must be started within 1 year of ticket issuance.)

Itineraries

  • Please refer to the Zones for details on zones.
  • * In addition to the award ticket rules, some itineraries may not be approved if they deviate from the various international flight ticketing rules. In such cases, the reservation may not be accepted.

1 The location which requires the largest amount of miles to redeem an award for from the selected departure point is considered to be the destination.

  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination.
Example of Destination

Outbound: Tokyo (Zone 1) - New York (Zone 6)
Inbound: New York (Zone 6) - Honolulu (Zone 5) - Tokyo (Zone 1)

Reason:

New York (Zone 6) is considered the destination because the required mileage from Tokyo (Zone 1) is the highest required to redeem an award.

2 Connections cannot be made in the respective departure and destination points in the outbound and return journeys.

  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination.
Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Tokyo - Seoul
Inbound: Seoul - Tokyo*1 - Fukuoka

  • *1.
Indicates a connection within 24 hours.
Reason:

The return journey passes through Tokyo. However, since it does not pass through the first city (Seoul) or the last city (Fukuoka), this itinerary can be used with an award ticket.

Example: An Itinerary Which Cannot Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Tokyo - Sapporo*1 - Tokyo*1 - Frankfurt
Inbound: Frankfurt - Tokyo

  • *1.
Indicates a connection within 24 hours.
Reason:

This itinerary cannot be used as the outbound journey passes through the first city of the outbound journey (Tokyo) again before it ends.

3 There are restrictions regarding the selection of connecting points. (Not applicable to Star Alliance Round the World itineraries.)

Area Classifications

Area 1: North America, Central America, South America, Hawaii, etc.
Area 2: Europe, Middle East, Africa, Russia (west of Ural Mountains), etc.
Area 3: Japan, South Korea, China, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Southwest Pacific, Russia (east of Ural mountains), etc.

Areas Restricted for Connections
Area Destination Area 1 Destination Area 2 Destination Area 3
Origin Area 1 Area 2, Area 3 Area 3 Area 2
Origin Area 2 Area 3 Area 1, Area 3 Area 1
Origin Area 3 Area 2 Area 1 Area 1, Area 2
  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination.
Example: An Itinerary Which Cannot Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Moscow (Area 2) - Singapore (Area 3)*1 - Johannesburg (Area 2)
Inbound: Johannesburg (Area 2) - Singapore (Area 3)*1 - Moscow (Area 2)

  • *1.
Indicates a connection within 24 hours.
Reason:

When using flight awards for an itinerary from Moscow (Area 2) to Johannesburg (Area 2), connecting points in Area 1 and Area 3 cannot be selected. In this example, flight awards cannot be used due to a connection in Singapore (Area 3). Change the connecting point to a city in Area 2.

4 It is not possible to select a connecting point in a zone which has a higher mileage requirement from the departure point than the destination. If the mileage requirement from the connecting point to the destination is higher than that from the departure point to the destination, then that connecting point also cannot be selected.

  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination.
Example 1: An Itinerary Which Cannot Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Tokyo (Zone 1) - New York (Zone 6) - Honolulu (Zone 5)
Inbound: Honolulu (Zone 5) - Tokyo (Zone 1)

Reason:

New York (Zone 6) cannot be used as a connecting point as the mileage requirement to New York is higher than that to the destination, Honolulu (Zone 5). In order to use flight awards, New York (Zone 6) would need to be set as the destination.

Example 2: An Itinerary Which Cannot Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Tokyo (Zone 1) - Seoul (Zone 2) - Los Angeles (Zone 6)
Inbound: Los Angeles (Zone 6) - Tokyo (Zone 1)

Reason:

The mileage requirement from the connection point Seoul (Zone 2) to the destination Los Angeles (Zone 6) is higher than that from the departure point Tokyo (Zone 1) to the destination, Los Angeles (Zone 6). Therefore, flight awards cannot be used to go via Seoul to Los Angeles.

5 If the departure point and the final return point are not the same, they must still be within the same country.

  • Hong Kong, Macau, and China are considered to be separate countries for award ticket itinerary purposes.
  • With the exception of itineraries which are solely within Scandinavia, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are considered to be the same country for award ticket itinerary purposes.
  • The United States and Canada are considered to be the same country for award ticket itinerary purposes.
  • With the exception of itineraries which are solely within Europe, all of Europe is considered to be the same country for award ticket itinerary purposes.
  • However, this excludes some areas of Russia east of the Ural Mountains.
  • The same country rule does not apply to Round-the-World award tickets.
  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination.
Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Osaka - Beijing
Inbound: Beijing - Tokyo

Reason:

This itinerary can be used as the departure point (Osaka) and final return point (Tokyo) are in the same country.

6 If the departure point and the final return point are not the same, or the last city of the outbound journey is different from the first city of the return journey, they must still be within the same area.

  • Itineraries which include ground transportation in Hawaii (Zone 5) and Central/South America (Zone 9) are not eligible.
  • Some itineraries which include ground transportation in North America (Zone 6) and Central/South America (Zone 9) are not eligible.
  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination.
Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Tokyo (Area 3) - Frankfurt (Area 2)
Inbound: Paris (Area 2) - Tokyo (Area 3)

Reason:

This itinerary can be used with an award ticket as the destination of the outbound journey, Frankfurt (Area 2), and the departure point of the return journey, Paris (Area 2), are located within the same area.

Example: An Itinerary Which Cannot Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Vladivostok - Tokyo
Inbound: Tokyo - Moscow

Reason:

This type of itinerary cannot be used as the first city of the outbound journey, Vladivostok (Area 3; see table above), and the final destination Moscow (Area 2; see table above) are in different areas.

7 If the last city of the outbound journey and the first city of the return journey are in different zones, the required mileage for each zone is divided by 2, then totaled.

  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination.
Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Tokyo (Zone 1) - Honolulu (Zone 5)
Inbound: Los Angeles (Zone 6) - Tokyo (Zone 1)

Reason:

The destination of the outbound journey, Honolulu (Zone 5), and the departure point of the return journey, Los Angeles (Zone 6), are in different zones. Therefore, the required mileage between Japan (Zone 1) and Hawaii (Zone 5) as well as the required mileage between Japan (Zone 1) and North America (Zone 6) are divided by 2, and then totaled.

Stopovers and Transfers

Stopovers (Exceeding 24 Hours)

For itineraries departing from Japan and itineraries departing from other countries, 1 stopover is permitted on either the outbound or return journey.

Transfers

Itineraries within Japan can have up to 2 transfers on both the outbound and return journeys. International flight itineraries can also have up to 2 transfers on both the outbound and return journeys.

  • Transfers at the destination are not counted.
  • If a ground transportation sector is involved, this is counted as 1 transfer for both of the endpoint cities.
  • Stopovers are included in the number of connections.
  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination.
Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Outbound: Tokyo - Bangkok - Singapore
Inbound: Singapore - Bangkok - Tokyo

Reason:

Since 1 stopover (exceeding 24 hours) is permitted on either the outbound or return journey, a stopover in Bangkok can be made on either the journey to or from Singapore.

Air Transportation Rules

Due to rules and regulations which prohibit non-U.S. airlines from providing air transportation services between two locations within the United States and its territories, itineraries from the United States to Guam and Saipan via a third country (Japan, etc.) are not permitted.
Likewise, non-U.S. airline itineraries from Guam and Saipan to the United States via a third country (Japan, etc.) are not permitted.

Notes
  • Please use the ticket according to the order of sectors shown in the itinerary. If a sector was not used, the ticket becomes invalidated and any remaining sectors will also be unusable.

Terms and conditions may differ depending on the partner airline, so customers are asked to confirm the details with the relevant airline.

Notes

  • If you are using Ethiopian Airlines, South African Airways, Singapore Airlines, Eurowings, Garuda Indonesia, Virgin Atlantic, or Virgin Australia, you may not be able to purchase tickets for infant passengers who do not require a seat.

  • When using partner airline flight awards, it may be necessary to make the child reservation directly with the operating airline.

Children (2-11 years of age)

Children require the same number of miles to redeem an award as adults.
  • Age on the day of departure for the first sector. (Different airlines have different policies for handling cases in which children turn 12 years old after journey commencement.)
