Oarai Hotel
Enjoy delicious anglerfish to the fullest, Ibaraki's winter specialty
Anglerfish is a deep-sea fish famous as a winter delicacy in Japan. Despite its somewhat grotesque appearance, this premium fish is rich in nutrition and collagen. At the Oarai Hotel, visitors can enjoy delicious anglerfish dishes in season at a great location overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Eat up every part of the premium fish in an anglerfish hot pot
Anglerfish is said to be entirely edible other than its bones. The different parts are called the "Seven Tools," and every part of its body except the bones, including the intestines, skin, and gills, are separated into seven categories and made into delicious dishes. Rich in collagen and vitamins, anglerfish are pleasing both for the palate and body. One such dish is the anglerfish hot pot, a hearty stew flavored with anglerfish liver and miso paste.
Gyorai-an, the Oarai Hotel's annex with a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean
The hotel is located in front of the Oarai Isosaki Shrine and is the closest hotel to the Kamiiso Torii Gate, the symbol of Oarai. The sacred gate stands on a rock reef among crashing waves, believed to be a place where deities descended in ancient times. The breathtaking scenery is also popular as a photogenic spot. In August 2019, the Gyorai-an reopened as an annex of the Oarai Hotel.
