Take-no-michi
A fantastical photo spot with trees and branches backlit by stunning lighting
Muko City in Kyoto Prefecture is well known as one of the top producers of high-quality bamboo shoots in the Kyoto area. The Take-no-michi bamboo-lined path was created through a number of different development phases in order to preserve the beautiful scenery of the majestic bamboo forest. This path, stretching over 1.8 kilometers, is edged with a variety of fence types made from local Moso bamboo. Once you step on to the path and start to stroll through this serene environment, you will be instantly enchanted by the soothing sound of the breeze through the leaves.
Eight kinds of bamboo fencing accentuates the path
This bamboo-lined path, selected as one of the best footpaths in Japan, features eight different types of bamboo fencing extending over a total of 1.8 kilometers. They include Takeho-gaki, made with thin bamboo branches; Kofun-gaki, round shaped fences that symbolize the shape of the nearby Terado Otsuka Kofun tumulus; and Kaguya-gaki, designed with the kimono collars of Princess Kaguya (main character in The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter) in mind.
A variety of hands-on programs, such as bamboo shoot digging and bamboo craft making
Bamboo shoots in Muko City are produced through a special cultivating method involving a huge amount of loving care. They are well known for their top quality, exhibiting a firm and crisp texture. Visitors can take part in a bamboo shoot digging experience held in spring (March to late April) with the assistance of local farmers. Another fun program is bamboo craft making, such as flower baskets, as the city is well known for its beautiful bamboo crafts.
