Yamamoto Nohgakudo Theater
The Yamamoto Nohgakudo Theater is situated in Chuo Ward of Osaka City in Osaka Prefecture. This is the place to go to enjoy a variety of traditional performing arts developed in Osaka, including noh plays, kyogen comic plays, bunraku puppet theater, ozashiki-asobi (games played at Japanese-style parties), kamigata-mai (Western Japanese traditional dance), rakugo (comic storytelling), kodan (storytelling) and rokyoku (narrative ballad). Some of the performances have English, Chinese or Korean subtitles so that non-Japanese-speaking visitors can also enjoy watching Japan's traditional performing arts.
Enjoy Noh Theater without the Language Barrier
Although one might think Noh to be difficult to understand, it is really more of a question of imagination - picturing the scenario being presented, and letting it resonate in your heart and mind. At Yamamoto Nogakudo, this is made all the easier thanks to many performances that are given in English, Chinese and Korean subtitles, allowing a wide range of guests to appreciate this unique art form. Guests at Yamamoto Nogakudo can also enjoy these performances while sampling a variety of food and beverages - a rare treat when it comes to Noh Theater.
Take to the Stage and Experience Noh
On the first and third Saturdays of each month, guests can see a special program called "Evenings of Traditional Osaka Performing Arts," in which four short performances of four different art forms take to the stage. Programs are selected from the various traditional performing arts developed primarily in Osaka, including Noh plays, kyogen comic plays, bunraku puppet theater, ozashiki-asobi (games played at Japanese-style parties), kamigata-mai (Western Japanese traditional dance), rakugo (comic storytelling), kodan (storytelling) and rokyoku (narrative ballad).
