Machu Picchu of Tonaru

This is a group of industrial heritage sites of the Besshi Copper Mine, nestled deep in the mountains of Niihama. At its peak, this was a bustling town with many residents. However, with the closing of the Besshi Copper Mine, only its remnants are left over.
In recent years, the area has become known as the Machu Picchu of the Orient thanks to its high-altitude location and stone walls and brick buildings, and it attracts a lot of tourists. From this approximately 750m altitude location, on days of good weather, you can gaze out upon the picturesque scene of the streets of Niihama and the Seto Inland Sea in the distance.
