Akashi Castle

The ruins of Akashi Castle are located in Hyogo Prefecture's Akashi Park. Step outside the JR Akashi Station and you will immediately see the moat and the large castle ruins. Admission is free, and since they are easily accessible the castle ruins are not only popular among tourists but are also enjoyed as a leisure spot by locals. The site also offers beautiful views during the spring cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons.
Beside the foot of the eastern yagura is a colossal wall which makes up the foundation of the castle keep. The keep was never built however, and up the adjacent staircase is a massive open space full of greenery.
Turn back toward the entrance and a look over the wall conjoining the two yagura presents a stunning view of Akashi city and the looming suspension bridge in the distance.
