Asahiyama Zoo
So many attractions around Asahiyama Zoo! Enjoy Hokkaido gourmet at Asahiyama Yuki-no-Mura.
Asahiyama Zoo, located in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, is a popular sightseeing spot and surrounded by many interesting places. At the closest, there is Asahiyama Yuki-no-Mura, where you can enjoy Hokkaido specialty foods such as ramen and “Genghis Kan” mutton hotpot.
At Asahiyama Zoo, you can see penguins, seals, polar bears, hippos, and other animals, and observe their natural behavior in the exhibits.
“The Penguin Walk” takes place in winter, when the ground is covered in snow. Twice a day, in the morning and afternoon, the penguins parade along a walking course inside the zoo. Asahiyama Zoo, where you can watch this cute march of the penguins up close, is a recommended spot in Asahikawa.
With their popular seals, polar bears, hippos, and other exhibits are open throughout the year. Be sure to check the board near the entrance that shows the “Mogu-Mogu Times,” which is the feeding times for the animals that day.
“Asahiyama Zoo by Snow Light” is an annual event held in early February to coincide with the “Asahikawa Winter Festival”, which is a popular event on winter nights. During the event, the zoo until 20:30. and ice candles are lit around the zoo to give the zoo a special atmosphere. Come and check out how the animals behave on winter nights, particularly the nocturnal species.
Across from the East Gate of Asahiyama Zoo, there is “Asahiyama Yuki-no-Mura”, a winter amusement park where you can enjoy winter activities. Enjoy thrilling snow rafting and snow banana. There is also a restaurant that serves special Hokkaido cuisine, including ramen and “Genghis Kan” mutton hotpot.
