Amano Iwato Shrine
Make a wish at Amano Yasugawara inside Takachiho's Amano Iwato Shrine, a power spot of Miyazaki
Amano Iwato Shrine, famous for the wishing stone stacks of Amano Yasugawara, is located in the town of Takachiho in Nishiusuki-gun, Miyazaki Prefecture. Known as a power spot of Miyazaki, Amano Iwato Shrine attracts many people seeking "goshuin" (shrine red seals) and amulets. This is the land of the legend of Amano Iwato, which is found in the chronicles of Japanese mythology, Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. The shrine complex has two main shrines, Nishi-Hongu and Higashi-Hongu, both of which are dedicated to the sun goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. The object of worship of Nishi-Hongu is the cave in which Amaterasu Omikami hid herself away. Nearby, there is a large cave on the riverbank, where the god and goddesses met to discuss their strategy of luring Amaterasu Omikami out of hiding from Ama-no-Iwato, the cave in which Amaterasu Omikami had hidden herself away, plunging the earth and the heavens into darkness.

"Amano Yasugawara"
The large cave where all of the other deities are said to have gathered on the riverbank to discuss what to do when Amaterasu Omikami hid herself away in the Ama-no-Iwato cave, plunging the earth and the heavens into darkness. It is said that if you make a stack of stones and make a wish on it, that wish will come true and this area of the riverbank now has many hundreds of such stone stacks, created by people to pray to the gods.
