Kannonji River's Cherry Trees
A cherry blossom tunnel in the middle of a pastoral landscape
In spring, a cherry blossom tunnel appears over the Kannonji River for a distance of 1 kilometer near Lake Inawashiro. There are about 200 trees of the Somei Yoshino and weeping varieties.
Nostalgic spring scenery with a small stream
Near Kawageta Station on the JR Banetsusai Line, the banks on both sides of the Kannonji River are lined with cherry trees. This small river, along with unconstructed banks, is surrounded by scenery reminiscent of fun times in our childhood with vast fields filled with spring flowers and long green riverbanks. Oyamazumi Shrine, located at the middle reaches of the river, holds a festival during the cherry blossom season, featuring events and stalls. The cherry blossoms are illuminated at night.
