Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
In Hiroshima City, Hiroshima, there are many famous tourists’ spots where you can learn about the past, present, and future of Hiroshima, such as Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and Orizuru Tower.
A Lantern Floating Ceremony is held every August 6, as a commemoration of the dropping of the atomic bomb. In this ceremony, people afloat down handmade lanterns on the river in memory of the victims of the bombing. Recently, the visitor from domestic Japan and from overseas are writing their messages for peace has drawn a lot of attention. This Lantern Floating Ceremony with a long history become the meaning of remembering the deceased and a message for peace.
The Peace Memorial Museum was opened in 1955 with the aim of notifying the world about the actual condition of the damage caused by the atomic bomb, and the abolition of nuclear weapons for world permanent peace. The museum is divided into the Main Building and the East Building, and exhibits many items related to the atomic bombing such as relics of the victims, atomic bomb materials, and photographs. It introduces the realities of the bombing, the events leading to it, and the journey of Hiroshima.
From the rooftop observatory of Orizuru Tower, visitors can look out upon the scenery of the Peace Memorial Park, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and central Hiroshima. There is also a permanent takeout-only café. Take it easy on the gentle slopes of the rooftop observatory, and gaze upon the scenery of Hiroshima city with some light refreshments.

Admission Fee | Adult (college student and up): 200 yen (160 yen per person for groups of 30 or more). High school student: 100 yen (Free for groups of 20 or more). Free admission for junior high school and younger. All who meet the following criteria may enter for free: Free admission for junior high school, elementary school, and preschool children. Free admission for high school students on Saturdays (excluding public holidays, and the spring, summer, and winter holidays). Free admission for people (and their guardians) who show the following certificates: a badge for the people with disability caused by a-bomb, medical treatment booklet, booklet for the mentally handicapped person and booklet for person with injury and sickness caused by war. 100 yen entrance for visitors who show an official document proving that they are aged 65 and over. |
