Hitachi Seaside Park
Enjoy a dreamy stroll in the ocean breeze among a field of nemophila flowers
Located facing the Pacific coast, Hitachi Seaside Park is a popular tourist spot in Ibaraki Prefecture. The expansive 200-hectare park is divided into seven areas, with a variety of ways to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. The most famous is the endless blooms of nemophila and kochia covering Miharashi-no-Oka Hill, a dreamy sight that will take you away into a land of fantasy.
A world-renowned fantastic view of nemophila and kochia
Chosen among Japan's 31 Most Beautiful Places by CNN television, the park is widely known both in and outside Japan for the breathtaking blossoms of nemophila in the spring. Around 4.5 million baby blue flowers cover the 3.5-hectare Miharashi-no-Oka Hill, creating an absolutely stunning view in every direction. Another popular sight is the cute, round kochia which change colors with the seasons. In the summer the light green plants grow rapidly, and with the coming of fall, they turn color and paint the hill in beautiful crimson, which then gradually turns golden as the season progresses.

The park is packed with a wide range of attractions for playing and enjoying food, picnics, sports and cycling to accommodate visitors of all ages, such as the Pleasure Garden amusement park that includes the Giant Ferris Wheel standing 100 meters above sea level and 27 other rides, as well as the Rinkan Athletic Hiroba (athletic plaza in the forest) and the BBQ Plaza. Every summer, the park also becomes the venue for the outdoor music event Rock In Japan Festival, which attracts approximately 278,000 visitors.
