    Himeji Castle, Japan’s national treasure and a UNESCO World Heritage site

    Built over 400 years ago, Himeji Castle has remained intact, including its main keep. In 1993, it became the first UNESCO World Heritage site in Japan. In spring, around 1,000 cherry trees in full bloom highlight the stunning white castle. The view of the castle and the stone walls from a Japanese-style boat that tours the inner moat is truly exceptional.

    Founded on the grounds of the former Western Residence, Koko-en Garden features nine distinct gardens of varying styles and sizes.     Shoshazan Engyoji Temple

    Unique architecture around Himeji Castle (Himeji City Museum of Art, Himeji City Museum of Literature and Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History)

    The Himeji City Museum of Art is housed in a red-brick building and features a sculpture garden, creating a beautiful landscape. The Himeji City Museum of Literature was designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando. Located on its grounds is the Bokeitei House, a nationally registered tangible cultural property. The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History captivates visitors with its unique design that features a glass facade providing stunning reflections of Himeji Castle.

    “Maedore” refers to seafood fresh off the boat, caught in the nearby Harima-nada Sea the same day.
