Lake Akan

Exciting recreational activities exclusive to winter are held at Lake Akan, such as fishing the Japanese smelts "wakasagi", powered sleds, snowmobiles, and dune buggies. Banana boat ice ride pulled by powered sled is most popular among tourists of all ages. When night falls, it's time to enjoy stage performance Lost Kamuy at Ikor Theatre.

Kushiro Wetland

Kushiro Wetland and the surrounding area have been developed into a national park, it is the home to many animals put under national protection such as the red-crowned cranes.

Canoeing in Kushiro

This is a great way to enjoy the natural scenery of Kushiro Wetland, the largest of its kind in Japan. One of the light spots is crossing the lake in a canoe spotting wild animals that meet you on the way. The sparkling "diamond dust" is a wonder recommended in midwinter.

Jewelry Ice

Jewelry Ice is the spectacle formed by ice pieces from the surface of Tokachi River washed up on the shore after being brought to the Pacific Ocean. It shines under the bright sun.
