Hitsujiyama Park (Pink Moss Hill)
Spring in Chichibu at Hitsujiyama Park covered in a fluffy carpet of flowers
With a picturesque view of Mount Buko, the symbol of the Chichibu area, the Pink Moss Hill in Hitsujiyama Park is beautifully designed with colorful pink mosses planted over approximately 17,600 square meters of land, one of the largest in the Kanto area. Don't miss the opportunity to see this fluffy flower carpet that appears only during the spring.
Over 400,000 pink moss plants of nine varieties
Pink mosses are perennials originating in North America. Because the flowers are shaped similar to the Japanese cherry blossom (Sakura) and the plant grows over the ground like lawn grass (Shiba), it is called "Shibazakura" in Japanese. The pink mosses grown on the Pink Moss Hill consist of nine varieties, including the bright pink Scarlet Flame and the Amazing Grace with a white flower and a pink center. The garden creates a beautiful spring design taking advantage of the various colors of the mosses on a vast landscape canvas.
Great photo opportunity with Mount Buko in the background
The classic photoshoot is to frame the pink moss together with Mount Buko, a vivid contrast of the bright pink mosses against the majestic mountain that is a symbol of Chichibu. The colorful design of the pink moss plants are inspired by the dynamic Chichibu Night Festival. Be sure to include this beautiful design when shooting from the top of the hill for an amazing picture.
More to see in Hitsujiyama Park
Hitsujiyama Park offers more than pink mosses. During the period of the Pink Moss Festival, the Chichibu-ji Specialty Market is also held in the park, and visitors can buy Chichibu souvenirs and enjoy local cuisine related to pink moss. From the Viewing Hill, take in a sweeping view of the town and the mountains of Oku-Chichibu. The park is also famous for being shown in a recent popular animation series. Also, you can meet herds of sheep at the Fureai Farm and also greet Potekuma-kun, the cute mascot of Chichibu City.
