Aya Teruha Suspension Bridge
Interaction with UNESCO-recognized Nature from Thrilling Heights on the Aya Teruha Suspension Bridge
The Aya Teruha Suspension Bridge, a must-see tourist destination in Aya Town, was built deep in the Teruha forest area within Kyushu Chuo Sanchi Quasi-National Park. The pedestrian suspension bridge, which spans 250 meters and at its highest point measures 142 meters above the river surface, is among the world’s largest of its kind. A number of related tourist facilities are built in the vicinity. You can visit Teruha Forest Museum (library) near one end of the bridge to view an exhibition of plant and animal species living in the forest.
Then, you can cross the bridge to engage in a 40-minute refreshing hiking session along a 2-km forest trail.
Enjoy Nature to the Fullest at This UNESCO Eco Park
The Aya Teruha Suspension Bridge was renovated in October 2011. You can walk up in the air and overlook the marvelous Teruha forest area, which was designated as a UNESCO Eco Park (biosphere reserve) in 2012. The suspension bridge is surrounded by natural beauty, with the view especially good during the fall when the leaves turn into a gorgeous array of different colors. From the fall foliage to the fresh green summer leaves, you can enjoy nature to the fullest no matter what the time of year at this highly recommended spot.
