    Hiroshima prays for eternal world peace and offers the breathtakingly beautiful scenery of Miyajima.

    Hiroshima's remarkable history and culture can be experienced through its two World Heritage sites. In the city center is the Peace Memorial Park, where you can learn the true meaning of peace. Then, venture out to Miyajima to experience the spiritual atmosphere of Itsukushima Shrine and its elegant architecture built on a place where the tides rise and fall. Also, be sure to savor the many local cuisines only available in Hiroshima.

    Atomic Bomb Dome

    The building that has remained in place since the Second World War speaks of its horrors. The adjacent Peace Memorial Museum exhibits various materials on the aftermath of the atomic bombing, including photos and personal belongings of victims, the reality of exposure to the atomic bomb, historical background that led to the bombing and Hiroshima's path to reconstruction.

    Hiroshima Castle

    Founded in 1589 by warlord Mori Terumoto, Hiroshima Castle is located in the heart of the city and can easily be stopped by while sightseeing. Even gazed upon from the outside, the castle's moat is quite beautiful. The inside of the castle tower is now a museum, where you can learn about the samurai culture during that time. (Admission fee applies for the museum.)

    Shukkeien Garden

    The beautiful garden constructed by a feudal lord is selected as one of the 100 best historic gardens of Japan. The serene atmosphere transports you from the hustle and bustle of the city despite its central location, as flowers from every season bloom such as cherry blossoms in the spring, hydrangeas in the early summer and vibrant foliage in the fall.

    Okonomimura

    "Okonomiyaki" pancake is a popular dish around Japan, and Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki is made with "yakisoba" noodles. There are over 20 specialty restaurants in this building, where chefs will cook your okonomiyaki on the griddle right in front of your eyes. The spot is also popular among locals, so you can enjoy being immersed in Hiroshima life.

    Sandankyo Gorge

    The 16-kilometer gorge has been featured in the international travel guide book "Blue Guide" for its crystal-clear waters and spectacular landscape. Explore its beauty through various routes, from the casual 20-minute round trip course to the 4-hour course encompassing the major scenic spots.

    Miyajima

    Itsukushima Shrine on the island of Miyajima has a unique structure in which the sea is part of its premises. Feel the spiritual air of the shrine in the elegant Shinden-zukuri architecture, and the great "torii" gate in the sea which can be walked to at low tide. In addition, enjoy delicious local island foods such as the maple leaf cake, "anago" eel rice and oysters.

    Miyahama Onsen

    The hot spring resort closest from Miyajima has open outdoor baths that appear as if connected with the sea, and inns where you can enjoy fresh local produce such as oysters. A wide range of water activities are also offered, including cruising and sea kayaking.

    How to Get There

    Fly from Haneda Airport to Hiroshima Airport in approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Airport limousine buses are available to take you into the city, and streetcars and buses are convenient for moving around the city center. Trains and rental cars are suitable for traveling around the prefecture. When visiting the western part of Hiroshima Prefecture, Iwakuni Airport can also be used.
