ANA International Flight Awards

ANA Mileage Clubs members can redeem international flight awards with as few as 12,000 miles.

Complete Procedure via the ANA Website

Information

Eligible Flights

ANA International Flights

  • ANA international flight awards cannot be used for codeshare flights with ANA flight numbers which are operated by other airlines (except for domestic flights). Codeshare flights operated by partner airlines with ANA flight numbers cannot be used. Please apply as partner airlines flight awards with partner airlines flight numbers.
  • Awards can only be used for Japan domestic connections if such connecting flights are operated by ANA. Flights with Ibex Airlines flight numbers cannot be used.

Eligible class

  • Economy Class
  • Premium Economy
  • Business Class
  • First Class
    • Awards can also be used with combinations of different service classes.
    • For Japan domestic sectors, awards can be reserved for Economy Class only.

Required Mileage

Available from only 12,000 miles (roundtrip)

  • Awards cannot be redeemed for one-way flights.
  • The amount of required miles based on which zones the departure and arrival airports are located in, ticket seasonality, and the class to be used. Please see Seasonality and Required Mileage Charts for details.
  • Infants and children occupying their own seat require the same mileage as an adult to redeem flight awards. Infant passengers who do not require their own seat will be able to use flight awards by paying 10% of the required flight award mileage for the same boarding class as the accompanying adult. For other details, please refer to the Usage Policy for Infants and Children page.
  • Family members who are registered for ANA Card Family Miles or the ANA Mileage Club Family Account (AFA) Service can combine their miles to redeem awards.
  • Award tickets can only be redeemed if the required number of miles for award redemption are in your mileage account at the time that the ticket is issued.
  • If the amount of miles is not sufficient to redeem a flight award, it is not possible to cover the difference with cash or ANA SKY COINS.

Mixed Classes

If the outbound and return journeys are in different service classes, the required mileage for each class is divided by 2 and then applied to both the outbound and return journeys.
If the itinerary has flights for multiple classes and also includes connections, the required mileage for the higher class of service on both the outbound and return journeys will be applied.
Example of Applicable Required Mileage for Itineraries Combining Different Service Classes.

For an itinerary with an outbound journey (Bangkok to Tokyo*1 to Los Angeles) in Business Class and a return journey (Los Angeles to Tokyo*1 to Bangkok) in Economy Class, the required mileage for each class is divided by 2, and then totaled.

  • *1.
Indicates a connection within 24 hours.
Reason:

As the outward journey contains multiple service classes, the required mileage for the higher class (Business Class) will apply. For the return journey, the required mileage for Economy Class will apply.

Eligible Mileage Account Groups

Miles from the following mileage account groups can be used to redeem flight awards.

  • Group 1 : Miles
  • Group 2 : Miles (Time limited)
  • Group 3 : Miles (Time and usage limited)
  • Group 4 : Miles related to aviation services (Time limited)

The number of miles required for flight award redemption will be automatically deducted from the member's mileage account in order of the earliest expiration date. If there are miles with the same expiration date in different mileage account groups, they will be automatically combined and deducted in accordance with the following order of priority.

Order of priority for combining miles: Group 4→3→2→1

Validity

  • The itinerary must be started within 1 year of ticket issuance.
  • Sectors other than the first sector of the itinerary must be used within one year from the itinerary start date.

Example: For a travel start date of February 1, 2023

Departure date of the sectors after the first sector is valid no later than February 1, 2024.

Itineraries

1 The location which requires the largest amount of miles to redeem an award for from the selected departure point is considered to be the destination.

Example of Destination

For an itinerary from Seoul to Tokyo to Los Angeles then back to Seoul via Tokyo, the destination is considered to be Los Angeles.

Reason:

Los Angeles is considered the destination because the required mileage between Seoul and Los Angeles is the highest required to redeem an award.

2 Connections cannot be made in the respective departure and destination points in the outbound and return journeys.

Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Tokyo to Seoul to Tokyo*1 to Fukuoka

  • *1.
Indicates a connection within 24 hours.
Reason:

The return journey passes through Tokyo. However, since it does not pass through the first city (Seoul) or the last city (Fukuoka), this itinerary can be used with an award ticket.

Example: An Itinerary Which Cannot Be Used with Award Tickets

Tokyo to Sapporo*1 to Tokyo*1 to Frankfurt to Tokyo

  • *1.
Indicates a connection within 24 hours.
Reason:

This itinerary cannot be used as the outbound journey passes through the first city of the outbound journey (Tokyo) again before it ends.

3 If the departure point and the final return point are not the same, they must still be within the same country.

  • Hong Kong, Macau, and China are considered to be separate countries for award ticket itinerary purposes.
  • With the exception of itineraries which are solely within Scandinavia, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are considered to be the same country for award ticket itinerary purposes.
  • The United States and Canada are considered to be the same country for award ticket itinerary purposes.
  • With the exception of itineraries which are solely within Europe, all of Europe is considered to be the same country for award ticket itinerary purposes. However, this excludes some areas of Russia east of the Ural Mountains.
Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Osaka to Beijing to Tokyo

Reason:

This itinerary can be used as the departure point (Osaka) and final return point (Tokyo) are in the same country.

4 If the departure point and the final return point are not the same, or if the last city of the outbound journey is different from the first city of the return journey, they must still be within the same area.

Area Classifications

Area 1: North America, Hawaii, etc.
Area 2: Europe, Middle East, Africa, Russia (west of Ural Mountains), etc.
Area 3: Japan, South Korea, China, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Southwest Pacific, Russia (east of Ural mountains), etc.

Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Tokyo to Frankfurt to Paris to Tokyo

Reason:

This itinerary can be used as the destination of the outbound journey (Frankfurt) and the first city of the return journey (Paris) are in the same area.

Example: An Itinerary Which Cannot Be Used with Award Tickets

Vladivostok to Tokyo to Moscow

Reason:

This type of itinerary cannot be used as the first city of the outbound journey (Vladivostok) and the last city of the return journey (Moscow) are in different areas.

5 If the last city of the outbound journey and the first city of the return journey are in different zones, the required mileage for each zone is divided by 2, then totaled.

Please refer to the Zones for information on the zones for the departure and destination points.

Example: Confirming the Required Mileage for Different Zones

Tokyo (Zone 1) to Honolulu (Zone 5) to Los Angeles (Zone 6) to Tokyo (Zone 1)

The destination of the outbound journey, Honolulu (Zone 5), and the departure point of the return journey, Los Angeles (Zone 6), are in different zones. Therefore, the required mileage between Japan (Zone 1) and Hawaii (Zone 5) as well as the required mileage between Japan (Zone 1) and North America (Zone 6) are divided by 2, and then totaled.

Stopovers and Transfers

Stopovers (Exceeding 24 Hours)

  • En route disembarkation is not possible for itineraries which depart from Japan.
  • Itineraries departing from other countries can have 1 stopover en route to the destination.

Transfers

  • Itineraries within Japan can have up to 2 transfers on both the outbound and return journeys.
    • Transfers at the destination are not counted.
    • If a ground transportation sector is involved, this is counted as 1 transfer for both of the endpoint cities.
    • Stopovers are included in the number of connections.
Example: An Itinerary Which Can Be Used with Award Tickets

Shanghai to Osaka to Sapporo to Tokyo*1 to Shanghai

  • *1.
Indicates a stopover (exceeding 24 hours).
Reason:

Itineraries departing outside Japan can have 1 stopover en route to the destination. Therefore, if Sapporo was selected as the destination, it is possible to have a stopover (exceeding 24 hours) in Tokyo.

Example: An Itinerary Which Cannot Be Used with Award Tickets

Sapporo to Tokyo*1 to Bangkok to Tokyo to Sapporo

  • *1.
Indicates a connection within 24 hours.

Stopovers (exceeding 24 hours) are not possible for itineraries which depart from Japan.

Alternatively, an infant fare ticket can be purchased separately for the same boarding class as the accompanying adult.
Notes

Registered award users who use awards while not accompanied by the AMC member are not eligible for prioritized reservation and wait-list.
  • The number of seats that can be used with award tickets is limited. (Reservations for award seats may not be available for some flights.) There may be cases when award tickets cannot be used even if normal fare seats available on a flight. Based on the seat availability situation for the flight, waitlist reservations may not be accepted.
  • When using an ANA international flight award, a minimum of USD 70 (as of February 2015) must be paid as taxes, Passenger Facility Charge, fuel surcharge, and other fees in addition to the miles that are used for award redemption. Such taxes and fees may change, and they are calculated based on the itinerary, class of service, exchange rates, etc. Furthermore, these taxes and fees must be paid in advance via credit card by the AMC member or the actual passenger at the time of ticket issuance.
  • Please note that departure/arrival times and aircraft types are subject to change without notice.
  • Flights may be operated on a seasonal basis only, service may be suspended, etc. (Even if flights are indicated in the charts, they may not actually be operated.)
  • Please use the ticket according to the order of sectors shown in the itinerary. If a sector was not used, the ticket becomes invalidated and any remaining sectors will also be unusable.
  • Mileage is not accrued when using award tickets.
  • Award tickets cannot be used in conjunction with upgrade awards.
  • If an award ticket is used for a flight, and said flight suffers a delay or cancellation, alternate transportation and accommodation will not be provided.
  • With the exception of miles which are eligible for unused award refunds, miles which have been used for award redemption cannot be refunded to a mileage account or exchanged for another award, even if the originally redeemed award was not used.

Tokyo is in Japan (Zone 1).
Los Angeles is in North America (Zone 6).
  • STEP 2 Confirm departure date seasonalities.
Confirm the seasonalities (low, regular or high) for the departure dates of both the outbound and return journeys by using the ANA International Flight Award Seasonality Chart.
The outbound journey (Tokyo to Los Angeles) is L (low season).
The return journey (Los Angeles to Tokyo) is R (regular season).
  • STEP 3 Confirm required mileage.
Confirm the required mileage for the departure and destination zones, seasonalities, and classes of service by using the required mileage charts for ANA international flight awards.
The outbound journey (Tokyo to Los Angeles) is 40,000 miles.
