Oarai Sun Beach
The barrier-free Oarai Sun Beach is perfect for visitors of all ages
Ibaraki Prefecture faces the Pacific Ocean with a long coastal area that stretches north and south for 190 kilometers and is dotted with 18 swimming beaches. The popular Oarai Sun Beach offers various marine sports, stunning ocean scenery, hot springs, delicious seafood, and many other attractions. It is also known as a universal beach, made accessible with barrier-free facilities so that visitors with disabilities and elderly people can comfortably enjoy the beach as well.
A range of exciting marine activities
From surfing to bodyboarding, stand up paddleboarding, jet skiing, and motor paragliding, Oarai Sun Beach offers a host of fun-filled marine activities. The sea dikes surrounding the beach help lessen the impact of high waves, making it safer for beginner surfers. In addition, small tide pools appear between rocks, which creates natural kiddie pools for fishing and playing with sea creatures. The entire family can relax and play all day on the expansive beach.
Feel close to nature in a beach camp
Beach camping is a popular way to enjoy staying at the beach during the spring to summer and fall. The day starts when the sun rises from the Pacific horizon, followed by various daytime activities such as swimming in the ocean or pool, visiting the aquarium, fishing or playing tennis. Oarai Isosaki Shrine, famous for the magnificent torii gate on an island rock in the sea, is also within walking distance. At night, venture out to a nearby market for fresh seafood and enjoy an ocean-view barbecue. There are numerous hot spring facilities in the area as well for comfortable beach camping in a resort-style.
