Tonoike Shuzouten Brewery

Experience sake tasting at Tonoike Shuzouten Brewery, the only sake brewery in the pottery town of Mashiko
Tonoike Shuzouten, established in 1937, manufactures the sake brand Sanran, brewed with the soft subsoil water of the Nikko Mountain Range. The Japanese sake has won many gold medals in various contests in Japan, Europe, and the United States, and has been highly praised overseas around the world. Tonoike Shuzouten also produces "shochu" and liqueurs, and visitors can enjoy sake tasting at a cafe in the brewery.
Visit the brewery anytime
Visitors can freely look around the Sake Brewery Museum, which was constructed by remodeling an old sake storehouse. Learn about the history of Tonoike Shuzouten, how Japanese sake is made and the valuable tools actually used in the past to make sake, and experience the unique atmosphere of a historic brewery. Guided tours and guides in English are also available with advance reservations.
Sake tasting and coffee in the brewery café
A shop and cafe are located on the premises of the storehouse. The coffee is brewed from the water utilized for sake brewing, which is used to produce the mild and rich taste of the sake. At the counter, you can taste several kinds of drinks free of charges, such as Japanese sake, shochu and strawberry sake. If you are looking for something extra, be sure to try the gold-prize winning Sanran Daiginjo served in a wine glass.
Enjoy the local sake with great food
Many restaurants in the area also serve the refined sake of Sanran. After visiting the sake brewery, it is even more special to drink Sanran in a Mashiko pottery ware sake cup in a local restaurant. The regional cuisine made from local ingredients pairs especially well with Sanran.
