White-walled townscape of Yoshii
Atmospheric white-walled streetscapes of Yoshii blessed with beautiful nature
Ukiha City is located in southeastern Fukuoka on the border with Oita Prefecture. The center of the city flourished as a post town along the Bungo Kaido road from the 17th century, producing a great number of wealthy merchants. This history still lives on in the streets lined with traditional buildings with white plastered walls known as the “dozo” style built by these merchants, which makes the town ideal for a stroll.
A leisurely stroll through the white-walled townscape
You can enjoy a pleasant walk passing by these white-walled houses that now serve as various shops such as cafes and confectionery shops in this quaint town steeped in history. During the Chikugo Yoshii Hina Doll Festival held in spring, a variety of rare Hina dolls are put on display throughout the town including at former residences and shops.
