Goshono Ruins
Ruins of a village in Tohoku from the Jomon Period, 4,000 years ago
The Goshono Ruins is a large historic site of a former village that existed 4,000 to 4,500 years ago in the latter part of the Jomon Period. On the site, Goshono Jomon Park features replicas of pit-dwellings with turf roofs and stone circles. There is also a museum adjacent to the site, offering learning opportunities about the culture of the site, the area and the period through displays of excavated artifacts.
Goshono Jomon Museum
The museum, located in Goshono Jomon Park, offers a large variety of experiences and opportunities to visitors. The main features are excavated artifacts, including the Carved-Nose Mask (Important Cultural Property), and images are shown on a large screen. In the area called Goshono Jomon World, the lifestyle and the scenery from different seasons from the period are shown on the screen and through projection mapping. Other fun features of this museum are a workshop of earthen-ware and accessory making and seasonal nature experiences. Check out the line-up on the website!
