Cape Higashi-Hennazaki
See the rare colliding waves of the East China Sea and the Pacific Ocean from the walkway surrounded by fields of flowers
Cape Higashi-Hennazaki is a long, beautiful cape stretching approximately two kilometers on the eastern tip of Miyako Island. The breathtaking ocean view has been designated as one of the country's Historic Sites, Places of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monuments. The scenery experienced from the lighthouse standing at the end of the cape is especially moving. Many flowers bloom in every season along the constructed walking trail, such as the tennoume plum blossoms, designated as the prefecture's natural monument, and Easter lilies.
Higashi-Hennazaki Lighthouse
Higashi-Hennazaki is a famed scenic cape selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Landscapes. The lighthouse located at its edge can be climbed, and when you go up the 97 steps to the 24.5-meter-high lookout, an almost 360-degree panoramic view of the clashing waves of the East China Sea and the Pacific Ocean will take your breath away. The lighthouse is the only one in Japan to provide this amazing sight, and also has a small exhibit and reference room on the first floor.
