Benesse House

Benesse House, located on Naoshima island in Kagawa Prefecture and designed by Tadao Ando, combines art and a hotel into a single facility. There are four accommodation buildings with different styles: Museum, which features an art museum; Oval, with a beautiful water basin at the center of the building; Park, a wooden structure where you can admire outdoor works of art from your rooms; and Beach, featuring spacious suites on the beach. Some guests visit multiple times to stay in each style of room. The art museum is open to non-hotel guests. Artwork is installed not only within the facility but also on the surrounding beaches and forests. Take in the atmosphere that harmoniously blends the abundant nature of the island with exquisite artwork, including Yayoi Kusama's “pumpkin,” a symbol of the island.

There are many other artistic spots on Naoshima, including the Chichu Art Museum designed by Ando and Naoshima Bath I♥湯 (pronounced “I love Yu (hot water)”) created by artist Shinro Ohtake. Stay a few days and experience the allure of the island.
