Beginning with Sakura-masu (trout) in the spring, long lines form for the natural rock oysters, a summer delicacy of Shonaihama Beach, followed by fresh run salmon in the fall, then warm soup brimming with Kandara (winter codfish) containing plenty of fat from the harsh cold weather. Natural rock oysters, the "milk of the sea" rich in minerals
Summer is the prime season for rock oysters in the Fukura area of Yuza at the foothills of Mount Chokai. Mineral-rich subsoil waters from primeval beech forests bubble into the seas of Fukura with plentiful planktons, which in turn nurtures the plump oysters. Also, because the water temperature remains cool, the oysters grow slowly over four to ten years, creating their delicious fine texture. Enjoy the springy texture and rich flavor of the rock oysters that can only be tasted here at Yuza.
