A "CARES" Seat

A "CARES" Seat label

“FAA APPROVED IN ACCORDANCE WITH” label should be affixed to CARES child seats.

What Are "CARES" Seats?

  • CARES is a seat for aviation use designed for children age 1 and older who weigh between 22 and 44 pounds (about 10-20 kg).
  • The harness type child seat was previously not allowed on ANA operated flights, but use of "CARES" only is now allowed.

Unacceptable Child Seats

The child seat must be secured with the seat belt at all times. If the device cannot be secured, it cannot be used onboard even if it meets other standards.

  • This may apply especially for First Class and Business Class seats on international flights and Premium Economy seats on domestic flights, as these seats are wider and may make it difficult to secure the device with the seat belt.

In addition, with the exception of CARES, the types listed here are unacceptable.
