Social Contribution as a Corporate Citizen

To help children understand more about air travel and the industry, the ANA Group holds aviation classes and lectures on the subject at various public events held at airports, schools hospitals, and other venues.

One of the more unique Group initiatives is ANA Virtual Flight. In this exciting activity, volunteer employees re-create an aircraft cabin at hospitals and take young patients on a virtual flight, in the hopes of giving inspired memories to those who can’t travel by air.

At our 2010 event, held at Juntendo University Hospital in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, children wore pilot and crew uniforms as they acted out the roles of pilots and cabin attendants. They also watched a video of a plane getting ready for takeoff and enjoyed the atmosphere of traveling.

In 2011, we held the ANA Virtual Flight at St. Luke’s International Hospital in Tsukiji, Tokyo. Coordinating with the hospital’s hula dance event, we had young patients and their families take a virtual flight to Honolulu, the home of hula. ANA staffers organized a commemorative photo of the kids in ANA uniforms, held a quiz show, and visited the room of any child who couldn’t make it to the event.

We will continue to firmly pursue activities that convey the spirit of “Anshin, Attaka, Akaruku-Genki!” (Reliable, Warm, Enthusiastic!) to many children and their families.

Furthermore, we are grateful to the Iwaya Corporation—maker of the toys sold on ANA flights—for their valuable cooperation in making this event a success.

Lily of the Valley—Bringing Flowers of Happiness to Hospital Patients

Pressed lilies of the valley bookmark

Pressed lilies
of the valley bookmark

Cabin crew members and ground staffers visit hospitals nationwide every June, including Japanese Red Cross Medical Centers, to present in-patients with bookmarks decorated with pressed lilies of the valley.

The tradition of giving gifts made from lilies of the valley, which signify happiness and good fortune, began in 1956 as a way to pray for the earliest possible recovery of patients. Their expressed appreciation is rewarding on many levels, including fulfilling our aim of contributing to society, as stipulated in the ANA Group’s “Course of Action.”

These lovely flowers blossom near Chitose Airport, Hokkaido. They are hand pressed into bookmarks by ANA Group employees under the guidance of Japan Remiko Pressed Flower School so the flowers will seem to remain in bloom forever.

Since 1962, the ANA Group has supported the Red Feather Community Chest drive held in Japan every October. In addition to collecting donations at Haneda Airport and the Shiodome area, we place donation boxes at departure counters of 51 airports served by the ANA Group, at about 80 ANA FESTA stores at airports managed by ANA Trading, and at ANA Counters in four cities.
