Okhotsk Mombetsu Airport • Tokkari Forest

ANA entered into a partnership agreement with the Hokkaido city of Mombetsu to create an open, eco-friendly city and conducted forestation activities there.

The initiative has two goals: (1) focus on being a zero CO2 emission forestation activity through ANA Group carbon offsets; (2) go beyond forest maintenance and become a project that improves forest, human habitat, and ocean based on awareness of their intimate connection.

A total of 180 people, including 60 ANA Group employees, got together to thin and prune Mombetsu’s forest of 0.6 hectares. From the Ainu word tokkari (“seal”), the forest was named Tokkari Forest (Okhotsk Mombetsu Airport) in the hope it will grow as a forest that will maintain the abundance and health of the ocean that is home to the seals.

Tokushima Awa Odori Airport • Sudachi Forest

In Tokushima Prefecture, ANA formed a partnership agreement with an organization called Tokushima Mori to Midori no Kai and began forestation activities in Kamiyama-cho.

Forty people, including local Tokushima volunteers, gathered to do thinning work on poorly growing or deformed trees in a forest composed of Japanese cypresses and Japanese cedars. In line with the Kamiyama-cho region being Japan’s greatest producer of sudachi (a green citrus native to Japan) and our hope that many wild birds will sudatsu (“grow up and leave their nest”), this forest was named Sudachi Forest (Tokushima Awa Odori Airport).
