ANA FLIGHT 61 LANDS SAFELY AT
HANEDA AIRPORT AFTER HIJACKING INCIDENT


Tokyo--At 11:40 July 23 (TYO time), ANA received notification that ANA flight 61, a Boeing 747-400 with 517 passengers and crew aboard, was hijacked en route from Tokyo (Haneda airport) to Sapporo (in Hokkaido). The hijacker was restrained at 12:11 and the aircraft landed safely at Haneda Airport in Tokyo at 12:14.

ANA has confirmed the death of the Captain, Mr Naoyuki Nagashima (51 years). All other passengers and flight crew are reported safe.

The above details were confirmed by ANA at a press conference in Tokyo at 13:30 local time today. A second press conference will be held later today at Haneda airport, at a time to be confirmed.
