Since our founding in 1952, we have continued to provide airline services with safety as our top priority. We reached our 60th anniversary in 2012. Today, we have grown to become one of the world's top-class airline companies, with more than 42 million passengers annually. It is our goal to be the world's leading airline group in customer satisfaction and value creation.

The Foundation of ALL NIPPON AIRWAYS Co., Ltd.(ANA)(1952-1963)

1952 Dec. JAPAN HELICOPTER & AEROPLANE TRANSPORT Co Ltd.
1953 Feb. The company starts a helicopter service.
1953 May. The company is authorized to operate a charter passenger service.
1953 Oct. The company is authorized to operate a scheduled passenger service.
1953 Dec. The company expands its route network, including cargo service on the trunk line Tokyo-Osaka route.
1955 Nov. Douglas DC-3 is introduced.
1957 Dec. The company name is changed to ALL NIPPON AIRWAYS Co., Ltd.(ANA)
1958 Mar. ANA merges with Far Eastern Airlines.
1960 Aug. Viscount 744 is introduced.
1961 Jun. Friendship F-27 and Viscount 828 is introduced.
1961 Oct. ANA is listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Second Section of the Osaka Securities Exchange.
1963 Nov. ANA merges with Fujita Koku K.K.
Certificate authorizing Japan Helicopter & Aeroplane Transports Co., Ltd. to operate scheduled air transportation business from October 1953.
Douglas DC-3
The mainstay aircraft of ANA's early days. This fully equipped passenger aircraft offered approximately twice the seating capacity of the previously used DH-114 Heron. ANA stewardesses (today's cabin attendants) first debuted when this aircraft began service. Service began on November 15, 1955 on the Tokyo-Nagoya-Osaka route.
On December 1, 1957, the first flight schedule under the ANA name was issued. The schedule is divided into westward and eastward flights.

The Jet Age (1964-1973)

1964 May. Boeing 727 is introduced.
1964 Jul. Computerized seat reservations started.
1965 Sep. Olympia YS-11 is introduced.
1968 Jul. Ground hostesses, who take care of passengers from check-in to boarding, are introduced at Tokyo and Osaka airports.
1969 Jun. Boeing 737-200 is introduced.
1969 Oct. Boeing 727-200 is introduced.
1971 Feb. Non-scheduled international service is begun (Tokyo-Hong Kong).
1972 Aug. The listing of ANA's shares is moved from the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Osaka Securities Exchange to the First Section of both exchanges.
1973 Apr. Reservation sales started of ANA Sky Holiday domestic travel brand.
1973 Jul. The first ANA Sapporo Open Tournament is held (currently the ANA Open Golf Tournament).
Boeing 727-100
ANA's first jet aircraft. Including the 200 stretch model, more than 1,000 of these best-selling aircraft have been in service around the world. ANA introduced a leased model on the Tokyo-Sapporo route in May 1964. This model was also put into service on the Tokyo-Osaka route in April 1965, reducing flight time to 45 minutes. The photograph shows the first Boeing 727-100 landing at Haneda Airport.
In July 1966, the Skymate service was introduced on Tokyo-Osaka flights. The service was expanded to all routes from March 1974, and the Junior Pilot Service for children flying unaccompanied began in the following year.
ANA's first international charter flight departed from Haneda Airport and flew to Hong Kong on February 21, 1971.

Age of Mass Transportation (1974-1985)

1974 Mar. Lockheed L-1011 Tristar is introduced.
1974 Mar. Nippon Kinkyori Airways (later Air Nippon Co., Ltd.) is established.
1974 Jun. ANA Hotel Sapporo is opened.
1976 Sep. The cumulative total number of passengers carried since the establishment of the airline reaches 100 million.
1978 May. Narita Airport is opened.
1978 Sep. Nippon Cargo Airlines Co., Ltd. is established (spun off in August 2005).
1979 Jan. Boeing 747SR is introduced.
1979 Jan. Reservation sales start of ANA Hello Tour international travel brand.
1981 Jul. The cumulative total number of passengers carried since the establishment of the airline reaches 200 million.
1983 Jun. Manza Beach Hotel in Okinawa opens (currently ANA Intercontinental Manza Beach Resort).
1983 Jun. Boeing 767-200 is introduced.
1984 Feb. The ANA Card is introduced.
Lockheed L-1011 Tristars
ANA's first wide-body jet. Equipped with a Rolls Royce engine, the aircraft's selling points included low noise and its innovative, advanced technologies. ANA introduced 21of these jets as the main aircraft for trunk lines and major local routes and also used it on scheduled short-haul international flights from 1986. Known informally as the Tristar, it was retired from service in November 1995.
Boeing 747SR
A photograph taken at the ceremony to commemorate the receipt of a Boeing 747SR held at Boeing's Everett Factory. Introduced as ANA's first jumbo jet and informally known as the "Super Jumbo".
Test service of Sky Vision cabin service began in 1978.

Advance into international routes (1986-1989)

1987 Jul. Boeing 737-300 is introduced.
1988 May. In-flight shopping catalog ANA Sky Shop begins publication.
1989 Jul. Service begins on the Tokyo-Bangkok route.
Service begins on the Tokyo-London route.
An event is held at Narita Airport in March 1986 for the first flight of regularly scheduled service to Guam.
Service on Tokyo-Beijing and Tokyo-Dalian-Beijing routes begins on April 16, 1987 the birthday of former ANA President Kaheita Okazaki, a tireless promoter of friendship between Japan and China. The photograph shows elementary school pupils welcoming the ANA flight at Dalian Airport (the first regularly scheduled flight to China).
On August 3, 1988, a large-scale hangar that can accommodate two jumbo jets and one medium-body aircraft was completed at ANA's international base in Narita Airport, part of a complete infrastructure for international flights.

Deregulation and Intensifying Competition (1990-1998)

1995 Dec. Boeing 777-200 is introduced.
1998 Apr. Airbus A321 is introduced.

Marine Jumbo and Marine Jumbo Jr., shown here parked at Airport, have flown in Japan and around the world. They are the forerunners of today's aircraft with special exterior designs.

In June 1996, ANA became the first Japanese airline to offer full flat-bed seats in the first-class section on its international flights.

Entering the 21st Century (1999-2012)

1999 Oct. ANA joins the global air alliance, the Star Alliance network.
2000 May. The cumulative total number of passengers carried on international routes reaches 25 million.
2001 Jan. Air Japan Co., Ltd. begins scheduled international service.
2001 Apr. Air Nippon Network (currently ANA WINGS CO., LTD.) is established.
2001 Jul. Bombardier DHC-8-300 is introduced.
2003 Mar. The cumulative total number of passengers carried on domestic and international routes by ANA Group companies reaches one billion.
2003 Nov. Bombardier DHC-8-400 is introduced.
2004 Apr. The ANA Group (air transportation business) is integrated under a single brand (all flight numbers use "ANA").
2004 Aug. Air Next (currently ANA WINGS CO., LTD.) is established.
2004 Nov. Boeing 777-300ER is introduced.
2004 Nov. Nakanihon Airlines Co., Ltd. becomes a subsidiary.
2005 Feb. ANA begins serving Chubu Centrair International Airport.
2005 Dec. Boeing 737-700 is introduced.
2007 Jun. All real estate held by ANA for ANA hotels is sold.
2008 Jun. Boeing 737-800 is introduced.
2008 Nov. ANA is designated an Eco-First company by the Ministry of the Environment.
2009 Oct. The Okinawa Cargo Hub & Network begins operations with late-night flights for speedy connections between Japan and Asia through ANA's base in Okinawa.
2010 Apr. The new Inspiration of Japan brand is introduced.
2010 Oct. A three-company merger is undertaken of Air Nippon Network (surviving company; corporate name changed to ANA WINGS CO., LTD.), Air Next and Air Central.
2010 Oct. Scheduled international flight service begins at Haneda Airport.
2011 Nov. Boeing 787 is introduced.
2012 Apr. Air Nippon Co. Ltd. is absorbed by ANA.
On October 31, 1999, ANA joined the Star Alliance, one of the world's largest airline alliances. The photograph shows a Boeing 767-300 with the Star Alliance exterior design.
In October 2009, ANA started a cargo network with its Naha Airport as a hub, linking cities in Asia including Tokyo and Osaka. ANA will further promote the use of the network under the value-added strategy of its cargo operations, together with the "high-quality operation" that is the pride of the cargo department.
In April 2010, ANA introduced its new product and services brand Inspiration of Japan. ANA BUSINESS STAGGERED (in Business Class on international routes) uses an alternating seat arrangement to offer more personal space (an increase of approximately 50% compared with previous ANA seats).

Start of ANA HOLDINGS INC.(2013-)
