Main Opinions from Experts

Recent Policy Developments in Climate Change

  • The movement towards mandatory sustainability information disclosure is gaining momentum worldwide. Companies will be required to disclose sustainability information in compliance with ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board) and SSBJ (Sustainability Standards Board of Japan) standards.
Companies must set and explain their environmental targets in line with Japan's upcoming updates to its environmental targets. This will significantly impact corporate goals and strategies.
  • Circular economy initiatives are increasingly seen as vital to combating climate change and reducing global emissions. Efforts to address climate change are interconnected and expanding to include biodiversity and the circular economy. Corporate sustainability efforts must now consider the entire lifecycle and value chain, making the disclosure of such information a critical focus for the future.
  • To effectively promote decarbonization in Japan, environmental values must be integrated across the entire social infrastructure, beyond specific sectors like aviation.

ANA Group's Environmental Initiatives

  • The ANA Group’s environmental initiatives offer valuable reassurance to our customers who rely on the Group's services. Continuing and enhancing these efforts in close collaboration with our customers is advisable.
  • A key consideration in using carbon credits is ensuring their authenticity and reliability. While ecosystem-based credits are promising, their absorptive capacity can be uncertain. Strict regulations are needed to guarantee that credits are genuinely reducing or absorbing emissions. It is crucial to fulfill our duty of care to avoid adverse impacts on the environmental community throughout the entire lifecycle.
  • Maintaining and expanding social infrastructure in the face of challenges like population decline and aging is a major issue, even outside of decarbonization efforts. These social issues must be addressed in tandem with environmental sustainability initiatives.
