Lake Okutama

There are two floating bridges built over Lake Okutama. One of them, the Mugiyama Floating Bridge, is nearby Ogouchi Shrine and is also known as Drum Bridge. While it used to be made of actual drum cans, now the bridge is made from resin and metal materials made to look like drums. Both children and adults are sure to squeal with delight and excitement when crossing the shaky bridge. Experience Okutama's famous floating bridge as you enjoy the feel of the wind blowing across the lake. Please note the bridge may be removed at times of drought.

Ogouchi Shrine was founded to enshrine the numerous shrines of the Ogouchi region which sank to the bottom of Ogouchi Dam when it was built and is deified as the guardian god of the service water for the capital. Situated atop a mountain on the peninsula jutting out into the center of Lake Okutama, it provides a superb view of the lake from above. On the second Sunday of every September, an annual festival is held in which various local traditional performances from the Ogouchi region are dedicated to the shrine.
