Drift Ice Sightseeing & Icebreaker Ship Aurora

Drift Ice Sightseeing & Icebreaker Ship Aurora takes you on an invigorating tour through the mystical drift ice, a popular east Hokkaido sightseeing activity

From late January to early April, a large frozen mass of ice known as "drift ice" reaches the Okhotsk Sea. Drift Ice Sightseeing & Icebreaker Ship Aurora takes you on an amazing tour as the ship breaks through the ice with its weight and powerfully sails forward. The interior of the ship is three stories, so you can enjoy the view comfortably from inside or go out on the deck and take in the view along with the Okhotsk Sea winds.

The boarding place for Drift Ice Sightseeing & Icebreaker Ship Aurora is located inside the Roadside Rest Area Ryuhyo-Kaido Abashiri, a 5-minute drive from JR Abashiri Station. From the first floor, you can see the ship breaking through thick, massive drift ice right up close. You can also enjoy light meals and buy souvenirs aboard the ship, including unique drinks alluding to the bluish drift ice like the Drift Ice Cider and Drift Ice Draft. Why not go out onto the deck with the ice-blue drink in hand for a memorable photo against the beautiful drift ice?
