A sightseeing spot in Miyazaki Prefecture, Unoko Falls has a unique scenery that looks like a hole in the mountain

Unoko Falls located in Gokase Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, are a very popular sightseeing spot. The basin has an area of 5,000 m2 and the waterfall drops from the height of 20 m. Surrounded by oddly shaped rocks in a columnar joint formation, the basin of the falls has a unique landscape, looking like a round hole has been scooped right out of the mountain. Cascading powerfully down from among the thick vegetation, the falls are a mystical sight. There are two ways of viewing Unoko Falls, “the view from the basin” will impress you with the sheer power of the waterfall, while “the view from the top” also offers views of the surrounding scenery.

Unoko Falls are surrounded by oddly shaped rocks in a columnar joint formation and have a unique appearance, looking like a round hole has been scooped right out of the mountain. The falls that were formed by pyroclastic flow from Mount Aso volcano, the massive waterfall basin and the expanse of forest around it combine to create a mystical sight.
