Items Which Are Not Permitted to Be Checked In or Carried on Board

The air transport of items at risk of explosion, combustion, causing bodily harm, or damaging other property is prohibited by law, and such items are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board. Sharp objects, etc., which have the potential to be used as weapons are not permitted to be carried on board. Please check for any such items before preparing your baggage.

Typical examples of items which are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board as well as items which can be checked in or carried on board under certain conditions are posted on the homepage of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Please check in advance to make sure that items applicable to dangerous goods are not contained in your baggage. Please be advised that in the event that it is impossible to confirm whether or not an item can be transported by airplane before the departure time, the request for transport may be rejected.

The law prohibits travelers from bringing plants, etc., over to the Japanese mainland, including sweet potatoes (excluding those officially disinfected) and morning glories from Okinawa Prefecture or Amami Islands, as well as uninspected citruses, Murraya paniculata or other seedlings, scions, live stems and leaves from Okinawa Prefecture, Tokunoshima, Okinoerabujima Island, or Yoronjima Island. These plants, etc., are not accepted in both checked and carry-on baggage.

Oil-filled Pocket Warmers
Oil-filled pocket warmers are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board, as they use flammable liquid as fuel which falls under the dangerous goods regulations.

  Although the inner configuration of an oil-filled pocket warmer is similar to that of an oil lighter with absorbent cotton, carry-on of one lighter per person is specially permitted in the dangerous goods regulations provided that it is a lighter used for smoking.

Gas Cartridge Stoves for Camping and Household Use and Gas Canisters

Stoves are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board unless it is possible to check that no gas is remaining in the main body of the stove.

Gas canisters and gas cartridges are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board.

Insecticides and Pesticides

Insecticides and pesticides are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board.

Fireworks and Firecrackers

Fireworks and firecrackers are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board.
