Boarding and Connections

Tickets

A valid ticket is required at check-in.

  • Passport

    • You will be required to show your passport at check-in.
    • Some countries require that your passport remains valid for a certain duration. Please check the expiration date of your passport yourself.

    • The passport is your main identification while traveling abroad. Write down your passport number and date of issuance and store the information in a safe place away from your passport.

      Based on your nationality, age and itinerary, some countries/regions will require transit/travel visas and/or a consent form. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have all the necessary travel documents to enter and/or transit the countries on your itinerary.

  • Enjoy a Comfortable Flight

    Prior to departure, please check the in-cabin environment which is different from that on the ground and how to make yourself comfortable while on board.

  • Safety Inspections at the Airport/In-Flight

    Airport safety inspections are currently being strengthened based on instructions from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the United States FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). Air safety is the number one priority at the ANA Group, and we appreciate your understanding during the safety checks that you may encounter on international ANA and AirJapan flights.

  • Collecting Advance Passenger Information (A.P.I.)

    In accordance with the instructions from the relevant governments, information on passengers using the applicable flights must be provided to government authorities such as immigration control and customs.

  • Insurance

    Purchasing travel insurance protects you against unforeseen events and therefore eliminates any worry. You can enjoy greater peace of mind by purchasing your insurance in advance. If purchased in advance, your insurance will also cover accidents which may occur on your journey to the airport.

    Self-Service Check-in Machines

    The self-service check-in machines next to the ANA airport counters can be used to complete boarding procedures.

    Before going to the airport

    When you register your passport information, email address (for check-in notification), advance seat reservation request*1, immigration information for the U.S. (when travelling on a U.S. route), and other pieces of requisite information by 24 hours prior to departure of your ANA-operated flight (local time), you will be sent a check-in notification email.


    You can then obtain your boarding pass by either printing it out or downloading it to your mobile device.

    At the airport on day of departure

    If you have any baggage to check in, please go to a baggage counter*2 to do so at least 60 minutes prior to the departure time of your international flight.
    After checking in your baggage, pass through security and be sure to go through the boarding gate at least 30 minutes prior to the departure time of your international flight.
    If you do not have any baggage to check in*3, proceed straight through security and be sure to go through the boarding gate at least 30 minutes prior to the departure time of your international flight.

    Deadline for Check-in Time

    When checking-in for international flights at the airport, please complete your check-in at least 60 minutes prior to departure.

      For through check-in (where you check-in for Japan domestic flights connecting to an international flight), please complete your check-in at least 30 minutes before your Japan domestic flight departure.

    This is the timeline until boarding. Please complete check-in by 60 minutes before departure. Please come to the gate by 30 minutes before departure. You may not be ale to board after 10 minutes before departure. Departure time is the time the aircraft moves away from the gate.

    Information for fully booked economy class

    When Economy class on ANA Group operated flights is fully booked on the day of departure, ANA may ask for volunteers among passengers booked and holding tickets on ANA Economy class fares (includes ANA International Flight Awards) to board on Business class for an additional payment of the following Upgrade Surcharge. Please note that miles will be accrued based on the ticket class.

      Information on U.K. Air Passenger Duty/French Air Passenger Solidarity Tax

      The amount of the following duty and tax differ according to each boarding class. Upgrade Surcharge are subject for payment.Please note that the balance of the duty based on boarding class will be collected at the airport.

      • U.K. Air Passenger Duty: Passengers departing from any airport in the United Kingdom are subject to this.

      • French Air Passenger Solidarity Tax: Passengers departing from any airport in France are subject to this.

      India Goods and Services Tax (GST)

      GST rate for Business Class is applied to Same-Day Upgrade Fare. 

      • GST: applicable for passengers departing from airports in India.

  • Online Check-in

    Check in online to reduce the time spent on boarding procedures at the airport.
    Once you have made a reservation and purchased your ticket, a check-in notification email will be sent 24 hours prior to the departure time of your international flight (local time) if you register the required information in advance.

  • Through Check-in

    Through check-in enables passengers with itineraries containing transit points to complete boarding procedures and check in baggage at the departure airport for multiple sectors up to their final destination. As a general rule, through check-in is only available when the following 4 conditions are met.

    1. The minimum connecting time is ensured.

    2. The reservation for the connecting flight is confirmed.

    3. The operating carrier for the connecting flight is a partner airline for through check-in.

    4. Your entire itinerary is shown on a single flight ticket.

      Please note that issuing boarding passes for connecting flights may not be available due to limitations of the partner airlines' system or connecting airport. Through check-in service may not be available at some airports.

      Even if your entire itinerary is not shown on a single flight ticket, you will still be able to use through check-in if you meet all of the following conditions.

      1. You present a flight ticket or another form of documentation showing your free baggage allowance.

      2. The baggage you intend to check in for your itinerary containing connecting flights falls within the free baggage allowance in terms of weight, size and quantity.

          However, you will not be able to use through check-in if it is not available with the airline operating the flight from your connecting airport.

          Please note that through check-in may not be available when your departing flight is operated by another airline.

    Through Check-in from an ANA International Flight to Another ANA International Flight

    Baggage allowance for connecting international flights operated by ANA Group companies varies by airport, such as within the same calendar day or 24 hours. At Haneda and Narita airports, baggage may be checked up to the final destination within 3 calendar days.

    Through Check-in from an ANA International Flight to a Partner Airline's Flight

    Through Check-in from an ANA International Flight to an ANA Japan Domestic Flight

    At the International flight departure airport in the applicable country, you can check-in for the ANA Japan domestic sector to which you will be connecting from an international flight operated by an ANA Group carrier.

    For customs, you will need to collect your baggage at the international flight arrival airport and check in the baggage again.

      Baggage can be checked in only when it is a same day connection.

    Through Check-in from an ANA Japan Domestic Flight to an ANA International Flight

    At all Japan domestic airports (except Kitakyushu and Iki airport), you can proceed with through check-in to an ANA International flight and your baggage will be carried to the destination.
    Please complete your check-in 30 minutes prior to departure.

      If the arrival airport of the Japan domestic flight sectors differs from that of the departure airport of the international flight (ex. Haneda-Narita or Itami-Kansai), baggage check-in is required at the departure airport of the international flight.

      Baggage can be checked in only when it is a same day connection. (Through baggage service is available only at Haneda Airport for the night flights departing at between 0:00 and 3:00, on the next calendar day.)

    • *

      Online Check-in is also available for passengers connecting from a Japan domestic flight to an international flight operated by an ANA Group carrier.
