Aircraft Accidents

Aircraft accidents are occurrences stipulated in Article 76 of the Civil Aeronautics Act and Article 165-2 and 165-3 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Civil Aeronautics Act, and which have been classified as such by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. These include death or injury (serious injury or worse) due to aircraft operations; aircraft crashes, collisions or fires; or damage to the aircraft (requiring major repair work) caused during its navigation.

Serious Incidents

Serious incidents are occurrences stipulated in Article 76-2 of the Civil Aeronautics Act and Article 166-4 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Civil Aeronautics Act which although not resulting in an aircraft accident were recognized as being at risk of doing so, and have been classified as such by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. These include occasions in which there was a recognized risk of collision or contact with another aircraft during navigation, runway deviations, emergency evacuations, fire or smoke in the cabin, abnormal decompressions, or encounters with abnormal weather conditions.

Event While descending towards Los Angeles Airport, the aircraft encountered turbulence at an altitude of approximately 14,500 ft. The seat belt sign was illuminated before the turbulence was encountered, and the cabin crew was in the process of conducting pre-landing safety checks. Although there were no injuries among the passengers, five cabin crew members were injured, with one sustaining a fracture (fractured coccyx).
